Engineers

So, here goes the first invitation to participate in our blog. You've seen that I posted two Dilbert cartoons related to engineers. What do you think of them? Do you agree with the message they convey? Any other thoughts about engineers? Don't be shy! Post a comment and share it with the rest of the class.

  3. Hi! I´m Aldana. I´ve seen the cartoons, they are funny. I think the second shows a bad acctitude that an engineer should never have!!
    Bye, see you at class!

  4. Well well well, let´s write a little bit so english does not get rusty.
It's curious how this guy Dilbert without any face expressions at all, can tell us many things.
About the 1st cartoon's subject, I must confess that I've never been like him (to screw a bolt into a nut was forbidden science for me) but I also consider that "we"(the inverted commas are because I'm not an engineer yet) are a special kind of people.....a very very lovely one!!!
And talking(or really writing) about the 2nd one, I noticed that there are some students with that flat dream, but on the other hand we've got the vast majority that humbly will succed in the industry.
    C U on Tuesday!!!

  5. Hi I´m Matias. Watching the first cartoon I remember that when I was a child I did not have this "little engineer" behavior, however I will become one!
The second cartoon shows a fiction engineer, which is very funny!!
    Bye, see you soon!

  6. Hi! I'm July. I've seen the cartoons and they are really funny, but the first is funnier than the second!
I think that the second cartoon shows that engineers are important people, but they should not think they are better than others!
    See you soon!
    =)

  7. Hi!. I'm Natalia. Both cartoons are really funny.
In my point of view, the first cartoon explains the fact that other people, like your frinds from school, neighbors,.. see us like if we werw aliens, crazy peolple or something like that, just because we are studying a career that includes the word engineering, but that's a very big lie.. (generally jaja).
We're normal people with different tastes.
    All the carrers have difficulties!!.
I think the second cartoon show the fact that people are scare and adore (in a bad way) engineers and because of that, some of them abuse of their power.
    kisses!!.

  8. Hi, this is me just posting Ivan's comment as he was not able to do it :)
Hi everybody! I'm Ivan. The first video is funny and I felt a bit identified in some respects. I can't be quiet if there is something broken and I have to disarm and try to repear it.
But what the doctor says is fine for me, because I don't want a normal life!

  9. Hi people!, I'm Paola..I agree with most of previous comments, both cartonns are funny..the first shows the reaction that some people have when they know that we're studying engineering, they think it's strage (in my case it's common becuse there aren´t many girls studying electronics).. the second cartoon shows a kind of abuse of authority that is incorrect in any profession..
    See you tomorrow!

  10. Hi, Im Alesis.. I agree with all of you, I enjoyed the catoons too. The first one is very funny and shows a little what some people in a town think (Im from a town), they in some how think that you have to be almost a "genius" to be an any kind of engineer (what for me is wrong).
The second one is interesting but I desagree with it because the real world is not like they show it in any way (at last in my carreer).
    See You!

  11. Hello I´m Daniel or Dany as they please! I like the first video, I think that the child has true vocation of engineer, being that, he solves problems like a good engineer! The second video don´t like very much, I think this person should not be believed more than the others just by being an engineer. Greetings to all my colleagues and teacher. See you next class.

  12. Hi everybody! I'm Ramiro. I think both videos are funny. The first one remind me just a little bit of my childhood where I used to desarm my broken toys and play wiht their electrical parts. Also I remember drowing big cargo ships. One may think I was going to study somenthing to do with technical stuff but actually I wanted to become a pilot! jajaja! and I ended up studying civil engineering so...at the end of the day I think that our childhood does not necessary determine how our jobs will look like! As for the second video...well...I dind't like this guy's attitude at all!! in brief, that's not the right thing to do as a professional, no matter what your job is, you have to act with humility.

    see you today!

  13. This is me again, just posting Antonela Martelli's comment.
Hi, I`m Antonela! the cartoons are very gracious!!
In the first cartoons I don`t feel identified because I´m study Biology, anyway I liked!.
The second cartoon are very agreeable to the engineer but unfair with the other worker in the compañy!
    See you tomorrow! :)

  14. Hi i'm Mauro, i really liked both cartoons!! about the first video i think that situation is very common because the people surprised when you tell them that you are studing engineering, and for my is the same like the others carrers...
about the second one, it is a exeggerate behavior that no one even a engineer will not to have!!

  15. Hi, I'm Juan. Like all of you, I think both cartoons are funny. I think are about something that a lot of people thinks: "Wow!!!, you are studying engineering"; and I think it is because no one likes math, and you have a lot of it in engineering subjects, so some people thinks it's one of the most difficult. But from my point of view, all subjects (at the university) have more or less the same difficult level. I don't know if you understand the idea... Juan

  16. Hi everybody! i'm Geronimo. I don't agree with the first video, i think that nobody has to be a genius fixing things to be an engineer. As i see, it's necessary to have a lot of patience and have vocation to solve all kinds of problems. However, it's funny how the doctor diagnoses an "engineering disease", and the reaction of the child's mother. The second video is very funny, but everybody knows that an engineer is just one of many persons involved in a proyect, he or she isn't the essential part in it.
    See you!

  17. Hi everybody! I'm Daniel. I liked both videos! I don't identified with the first video but is very funny! The second video, well! if this is true ours futures will be nice. Unfortunately, at least in Argentina is not that way!

  18. Hi, I´m Cecilia I watched both videos and I think in the first, the boy is just using his imagination or common sense, not super natural at all. I remember when my brother was three years old he was able to play the video casettera put his favourite casette and watch his cartoons without the help of anybody and he´s not an engineer however nowadays he handle his computer in an awesome way.
The reaction of the mother with her son is so funny, i know many mothers like her (:
In the second video sometimes de reality overcomes the fiction.
Finally.. I´m a bit disappointed because there´s not an engineer woman in the videos (jejeje)
    See you tomorrow!

  19. Hi I´m Cintia. I`ve the seen the cartoon and the first is very funny than the second, because
the second video,I think this person should not be believed more than the others just by being an engineer.

  20. Hi!!! I'm Verónica... Both videos are funny!!!
About the first cartoon, I wish I was as smart as that child is!! I didn't feel identified because I used to break things, not fixing them up!! jaja. I agree with my partners when they say that the video shows how some people react when we tell them that we study engineering.
I think that nobody should treat an engineer (or any other professional) the way that is shown in the second cartoon. In my opinion, an engineer is just another working person, and should never think that is better or more important than anyone.
    See you :)
